Course Structure: Intensive Recording Studio Training Berlin

Duration: 2 intensive recording days and 4 mixing sessions
Schedule: Friday-Saturday, one day break, Monday-Thursday in the afternoons.
Total Hours: 32 hours (16 hours recording + 16 hours mixing)

Weekend 1: Professional Recording Techniques

Friday-Saturday × 8 hours = 16 hours in studio

During the first 2 days, you’ll record a variety of instruments with professional musicians organized by Berlin School of Sound. Specifically, each day focuses on different instrument families, covering microphone techniques, placement, room acoustics, gain staging, and capturing the best possible performance. Notably, this takes place in the fully-equipped professional studio which was designed by world-renowned music producer Roli Mosimann.

Friday: Drum & Double Bass Recording

• Drum Recording Techniques:
  • Microphone selection and placement for kick, snare, toms, overheads, and room mics
  • Close-miking vs. overhead techniques for different drum sounds
  • Phase alignment and managing drum bleed
  • Setting up headphone mixes for drummers
  • Recording techniques for different playing styles and dynamics
• Double Bass Recording:
  • Microphone techniques for jazz and classical styles

Using the material recorded during Weekend 1, you’ll develop professional mixing skills in Pro Tools from fundamental balance and EQ to advanced automation and effects processing. Under the guidance of Henning Grambow, each participant will work on their own mixes while receiving expert feedback and instruction throughout 4 mixing sessions.
